About Le Petit Bois

Le Petit Bois: A charming Chambre d’Hôtes and Gîte in the heart of the Limousin countryside located close to Pompadour.

Nestled in the picturesque Pays de Pompadour – Lubersac community, Le Petit Bois offers a serene retreat characterised by its idyllic countryside setting. Located just 20 minutes from the A20 motorway, which connects Paris and Toulouse, this enchanting complex spans over 6 hectares of lush gardens and well-maintained horse paddocks. Here, guests are treated to a unique blend of tranquility and convenience, with the charming towns of Lubersac and Pompadour only a short drive away—12 minutes and 7 minutes, respectively. The local village of Troche is just 3 minutes by car, providing easy access to essential amenities while allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature.

The centrepiece of Le Petit Bois is an inviting stone farmhouse, believed to have been crafted using the stone salvaged from the remnants of an older, dilapidated farm building. From its vantage point, the farmhouse boasts sweeping views of its pastures and the vibrant rolling hills of the surrounding apple orchards beyond that define the landscape of the Corrèze, all just a stone’s throw from the scenic Dordogne region.

Enclosed in part by a tree-lined garden, Le Petit Bois also features a cosy “Maison d’amis,” which has been thoughtfully converted from a portion of the original barn. This little cottage provides additional self-catering accommodation, ideally suited to couples and their four legged friends, ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Le Petit Bois is distinguished by its lush grounds, adorned with numerous mature trees that offer shaded spots for relaxation. A highlight of the complex is the brand new, state-of-the-art ceramic swimming pool, measuring 11x5x1.5 metres. Laid in the summer of 2021, this in-ground pool is perfectly situated in one of the sunniest areas of the garden, surrounded by ample lawn space and a gravelled area designed for sun loungers and barbecues.

Whether joining your generous hosts at apéro time or just indulging in a quiet evening under the stars, the large garden serves as the perfect setting, offering a delightful shaded haven, ideal for enjoying breakfast, lunch, or dinner amidst the enchanting ambiance of Le Petit Bois.

At Le Petit Bois, guests are invited to experience the beauty of the French countryside, the warmth of rural hospitality, and the comfort of a well-appointed retreat. Whether you seek adventure in the surrounding landscapes or simply wish to unwind by the pool, this charming place promises unforgettable memories in a tranquil setting.

Maison de Famille et Chambre d'hôtes

The Maison de Famille is a generously proportioned stone property, arranged over a sous-sol (basement). The front door is reached via about 12 stone steps leading to a pretty slate & wood porch where the little stone wall seat offers a lovely view across the lane to another of our paddocks and the sand school.  A perfect spot, bathed in sunshine for a quiet morning coffee or perhaps an evening apéro to watch the world go by (and sometimes even see our horses being schooled on the sand arena).

Inside, the first two rooms to the left and right of the front door contain the fully equipped kitchen breakfast room (with table & chairs seating 6 to 10 people). The cosy sitting room with two comfortable armchairs and a sofa is just across the hall. The large traditional French windows in each of these two rooms look out over the front garden & lane to the paddock and sand school beyond. If you’re an early riser you might sit quietly with a cuppa, watching for the deer grazing their way peacefully through the bottom of the paddock in the dawn light.

Further down the hallway, to the left and right, are the first two bedrooms. Hydrangea (our own bedroom) and Rhododendron (which has twin single beds, either pushed together or pulled apart, depending on guest requirements). Both rooms have a large window looking out over the grass courtyard towards the Maison d’Amis and barn, and the blue skies beyond the old slate roof. Both bedrooms also share the main bathroom (washbasin, loo & bath with shower over), situated between the two rooms.

Up the stairs to the 2nd floor, there is a large landing with access to the two further rooms. The first door leads to Magnolia, the master bedroom (with its own en-suite shower, basin and loo). It’s another lovely room with a superking sized bed and its large window, shaded by the beautiful Magnolia tree, overlooks the gardens to the side of the house, towards the pool and further gardens.  On the other side of the landing is Willow, a huge family/friends bedroom, running from the front to the back of the whole house. At one end there are two single beds (both having truckles underneath, these can be turned into 2 further childrens’ beds upon request) at at the other end, there is a kingsize bed, wardrobe and dressing table. The large window in the middle of the room has a view over the equine end of the barn, paddocks and driveway, with more apple orchards and distant mountains beyond. In front of the window there is a large L-shaped sofa and coffee table, ideal for playing board games or getting together to watch a movie.  There are various board games, books and playing cards to entertain adults and kids alike during inclement weather.

We are open year-round and have gas central heating throughout (except for Willow, which has electric radiators) and a log burner in the kitchen. The house is well-insulated but we also provide heated mattress covers (not the truckle beds) and old fashioned hot water bottles, should they be required!

Le Maison D'Ami (Gîte)

The old stone walled barn has been converted (roughly a third of it) into a lovely airy, fairly open-plan space, The Gite is ideal for couples. The super-king bed/area is partly hidden by built-in wardrobes/storage and there is a separate walk-in shower, loo and basin.  The main living area has a traditional cobblestone floor with a comfortable leather sofa and armchairs and a large old foot stool arranged around the large inglenook fire place into which a brand new pellet burner has been installed. We have also provided a TV showing mainly English channels. A glazed door leads to a further patio and dining area with a C-shaped sofa offering views over the horse paddocks to the rear of the property.  Through the stone doorway to the side of the fireplace and living area is a well-equipped galley kitchen (with a small breakfast table, ideal for 2) which still houses the old bread oven. We have utilised the old piggery to provide a further covered outside eating area which adjoins the kitchen via a glazed door. It’s a lovely quiet place for your early morning cuppa, overlooking the grassy courtyard towards the stables and ideal for a spot of lunch in the shade, out of the blazing midday sun.
